Many packets have been stopped in random checks either by their carrier or at the airport for not having packaging approved for dangerous goods. Apart from the risk of leakage, this may result in a substantial claim for damages.
Imagine your business having to compensate the crashing of an air freighter because your goods had not been packed correctly!

Four international codes of practice exist for transport of dangerous goods:
These codes of practice comply with UN's recommendations for classification, labelling and packaging. With their nine classes of risks, the four codes of practice cover a little over three thousand substances with each their number - the so-called UN (United Nations) number.
As a manufacturer, importer or exporter, and consequently packaging and transport user, it will of course also be necessary to obtain information about the local rules in the country to which the goods are shipped.
For more than 25 years FARUSA has manufactured both standard and tailored boxes for dangerous goods.
We are the only business in Denmark with a UN 4GV approval of our packaging for dangerous goods.

This means that it is now possible to ship dangerous goods legally without having to perform the statutory testing in which the contents are tested together with the type approved 4G packaging and still be in compliance with the rules.
Packaging is available in various standard sizes all supplied with plastic bags. However, we can also supply you with tailored packaging according to your specific measurements. The picture shows a cross filling of cardboard. |

The 4GV labelling in the picture at the bottom right says:
4GV/X96/S/02
DK/ETI-01008
-
UN - United Nations packaging symbol.
-
4GV - 4 signifies a box. The G signifies that it is of solid cardboard or corrugated cardboard and the V signifies that it has already been tested with a product inside.
-
X96 - signifies that the total weight of this box (TARA weight) shall not exceed 96 kg.
-
S - means 'solid' i.e. a solid substance.
-
02 - is the year of production.
-
DK - is the manufacturing country.
-
ETI - signifies DTI Packaging & Transport, which has type-tested and type-approved the packaging, and the number is the type approval number. In this case, FARUSA emballage is the packaging manufacturer.

All industrial products classifiable with a UN number according to conception of danger and the UN list, must have UN approved packaging. The UN packaging recommendations comprise parcels (packaging with its contents) with a net weight of up to 400 kg and volume until and including 1000 litre.
All packaging must be provided with labelling of a size and placing suitable for the packing to ensure that the labelling is permanent and easily readable.
There are several courses in dangerous goods, e.g. the Danish Technological Institute, Dangerous Goods Management and Trotters. Please contact us if you have any queries about the rules or packing.
